Meet Me There: The Big Catch

As early as 5 am, we woke up to chants. Curious to see what was going on, we came out of our huts to see fishermen at work, drawing their catch from the ocean and the lagoon. With each pull, there was a shout in unison motivating each other to persist until their catch reached the shore.   Once their catch had arrived on the shore, we helped them sort out the various sea creatures and prepare them for sale. T. drove a hard bargain until we had half a bucket of shrimps for Ghc 20. We left the shore with our small ‘catch’ gearing to use it for a delicious stew we were going to eat at dinner time. We lit another bonfire, with the remainder of the wood from the previous day, to celebrate our stay and trade stories of our individual experiences and the personal discoveries we made about ourselves. Finally, our last day at Meet Me There had arrived. We were feeling too melancholic to take photos. We were so hesitant to leave our paradise yet we were homesick. Rachel took in as much of the ocean view as she could right before we crossed over to the other side of the lagoon. T. and Kuvie battled hard in a game of ping pong in the summer hut whilst the others watched and waited to set off. After the game, we said goodbye to our hosts and thanked them for their hospitality. We then drove to Accra, refreshed and ready to attack the rest of the year purposefully whilst anticipating our next getaway. Subscribe To...
